It’s always exciting when you have the opportunity to redo a space that already has beautiful bones and a spacious layout. That doesn’t often happen, especially in a kitchen remodel.
But with the good comes the bad, and this kitchen renovation is a perfect example. The bad came in the form of dated everything, from appliances and tile counters to cabinets and a hand-painted floral backsplash.
Lucky for the design team, the homeowners gave the green light to gut and renovate.
Before: Plaid wallpaper, dated accents
The family loves to cook and congregate in the kitchen for breakfast, after-school snacks with the kids, and dinner. They wanted a space that they could show off, but without forfeiting functionality and approachability.
The kitchen was totally outfitted in plaid wallpaper, white tile with forest green accents, and traditional white cabinets.
But it also had a wide open layout.
It was perfect for a bright, white color palette. The designers wanted to create a space for the family that was both livable and luxe.
After: Designed to be durable
Work began from the ground up. Beautiful and durable new flooring was selected as the foundation for a modern white kitchen.
Next, the space was fitted with new flat-panel cabinets featuring nickel hardware. The countertops were given the royal treatment with new marble-like surfaces.
The true star of the show is a beautifully laid tile backsplash featuring a framed out portion below the hood.
To add height, glass-front cabinets were added at the ceiling, allowing the family to showcase their favorite serving dishes and heirlooms.
Last but not least, new stainless steel appliances were installed to make the space shine.
The outcome is a magnificent kitchen that’s both fashionable and functional. The homeowners are ecstatic about the design, and love that all the surfaces are durable, low-maintenance, and easy to clean.
