The all-white kitchen is one of the most recognizable trends to hit interior design and home decor – it’s practically become a staple in new homes. With its clean lines, glossy surfaces, and light and bright coloration, this kitchen look is easy to love.
However, for homeowners who want a little more “oomph,” the monochromatic look can strike a boring chord. Here are some of our favorite ways to add spice to an all-white kitchen space.
Blend tones of white
There is only one shade of white, right? Wrong.
With so many paint companies offering their version of white, it’s easy to get confused and paint the space only one shade.
To pull off the all-white look and have it blend seamlessly into the rest of your home, work several shades of white into the space to add depth and dimension.
Shoot for at least three different variations of white, but five to six is always better to make sure the room doesn’t feel flat.
Add texture
While you may not be able to branch out too far with color, adding texture is a different story. An all-white kitchen depends on textures and patterns to make sure it doesn’t strike a hospital-like tone.
Add beveled subway tiles as a backsplash, or a rustic finish to cabinetry for a little pop. You can also add texture with kitchen towels, draperies, and area rugs in varying patterns like herringbone, plaid, and stripes.
Highlight the bones
The most appealing kitchen spaces have beautiful architecture. An all-white space begs for added dimension like exposed beams, molding, beadboard, or wainscoting highlighted in varying tones of white for visual relief.
If your kitchen doesn’t have any of these elements, fake it by sprinkling in contrasting finishes on your cabinetry, base boards, or surfaces.
Opt for shine
If your all-white kitchen space is on the small side, or simply lacks a little depth, boost its luster by adding high-shine surfaces, materials, and decor.
Glass, mirrors, and crystal help reflect white walls and spaces, visually expanding the room and adding a touch of decadence where there wasn’t any before.
Mirrored trays, high-gloss countertops, and shiny polished nickel hardware are some favorite ways to touch up an all-white space to take it from boring to beautiful.
