Zillow capitalizes on holiday spirit, adds Santa’s house to site

Have you decorated for the holidays yet? HousingWire has! Even if it does look a little more like reindeers threw up lights across the newsroom.

Here’s a picture of some of our decorations, but before you judge, remember we’re journalists, not designers.

There’s no doubt that the holiday spirit is in the air. Store parking lots are full, Christmas shopping is in full swing, and the holidays are nearly upon us. One company, however, was not going to let the season pass without capitalizing on the festivities.

Zillow recently announced that Santa’s house is now on their site, and that users can click through, see the Zestimate and even look at pictures. The home’s value is set at $656,957 and is considered one of the most valuable residential properties in the Artic.

The company figured out the value by using comparable homes in remote locations and applying a Santa premium, or a 78% increase due to a survey showing 78% of people cited Christmas as one of their favorite holidays.

The log cabin, which is about 2,500 square feet, has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and sits on 25 acres at the North Pole.

“Santa’s home in the North Pole is one of the most famous homes in the world, so we’re thrilled it’s now on Zillow,” Zillow Chief Marketing Officer Jeremy Wacksman said. “Millions of kids are looking forward to a visit from Santa this year, and now they have the opportunity to virtually visit Santa’s house themselves.”
